Kalamazoo Youth Commitee

Calling the youth and the young at heart! Want to have real conversations about race? Come bond, learn and talk about race with people of other backgrounds – no need to be afraid to speak your mind, we’re all here for the same purpose!

The Youth Committee of the Kalamazoo Race Initiative is a group of teens and youth workers from throughout Kalamazoo.

What do we do?
We participate in regular meetings, have discussion questions, and a lot of fun! We also plan a wide range of activities that will make up the youth programming of the exhibit. Some of us will also serve as tour guides during the exhibit. Community service hours are given for attending Youth Committee events! (don’t forget Community Service is important when you start to fill out college applications. They are looking at a "well-rounded" student and what better way to improve than to contribute to our region through the RACE Exhibit!)

How do you get involved?
Come to our meetings, usually held at FIRE Historical and Cultural Arts Collective, 1249 Portage Road in Kalamazoo. We are also partners with The Race Initiative Media Arts Academy, a team of youth Social Change Scientists that continue to explore ways in which media can be used to help dismantle racism and connected issues. Enlighten, Enlist, Engage, and Empower youth NOW!
